We’ve spent a lot of time at home over the last few years, and that’s led many of us to become more interested in our indoor air quality. Not only does poor indoor air quality lead to an uncomfortable home; it can also damage your wood furniture if the air is too damp and lead to asthma, allergies, and respiratory illnesses if the air isn’t clean. Arundel Cooling and Heating offers a wide range of air purification products to homeowners throughout Maryland, including energy-efficient humidifiers. If you’re serious about great indoor air quality, we’re the ones to call.
You might be familiar with small, portable humidifiers that help you feel better when you have a cold or the flu. Whole-home humidifiers work similarly, except on a much larger scale! They are usually installed as part of your HVAC system and work in tandem with your furnace to add moisture to dry, irritating air. There are three main kinds of whole-home humidifiers.
Kinds of Whole-Home Humidifiers
- Bypass humidifiers connect to your air handler or furnace and distribute moisture through your air ducts. They’re best for small to medium homes and are generally the most affordable option.
- Fan-powered humidifiers distribute moisture through your home using a fan, and can be used when the furnace isn’t running. Since it puts more moisture into the air than bypass humidifiers do, it’s a good choice for bigger homes.
- Steam humidifiers also distribute moisture through your air ducts, but are a little more complex than bypass humidifiers. In order to create the steam, they fill a canister with water and use a heating element to warm it. These create the most moisture and are best for very large homes.
Before we install your new humidifier, we’ll evaluate your home and have a discussion with you about how you use your HVAC system in order to determine the right model for you. No matter which humidifier you choose, your home will be more comfortable, your furniture will be safe from moisture damage, and your family will breathe more easily.
